Collaborative Tuesday

I'm shooting on 35 millimeters again!
All this time I had thought I had lost you, but here you were, just sitting on my shelf!

And yesterday was the most appropriate day to start using it again.

New Addition(/Edition)

Decided it needed sum'moh
...and I know. I'll fix that boot in the upper left corner later.

Writing Prompts

#1: Write A Haiku
everyone's asleep
one light is on in this house
it's lighting these keys

#2: Write A Few Random Snippets
-That picture is a painting I just finished for Lucy to put in her dorm. I think it turned out pretty nice!
-And everyone really is asleep! Somehow I shifted all of my hours back, so I go to sleep around 3 and wake up at 11-- it sucks waking up later in the day but it ruuules being productive at night in a quiet house.

-"There's so much I want to tell you."

Travelin'

Our trip out East was really great. Of course the only pictures I choose to show you are of fruits and a duck (things you could easily find in any city) but I took many other photos of all the dorky things I've always wanted to do. All the museums in DC and New York were amazing! No wonder we have such shitty collections! And our visit to the Capitol and all the surrounding monuments was really neat. Tiffanie, other people like American history too! Yay! Start wearing your Aaron Burr t-shirts!!

But it's time to repack, return to the airport, and leave for Oregon tomorrow morning. Hilli, ya ready for me?!?

Congratulations Mr. Pettibon,

You are my new favorite artist!
His ink work is really beautiful. But I'm usually more attracted to bold colors and clean images. So interesting choice, no? Well Pettibon went to UCLA and graduated with an Economics degree but later became a really successful and amazing artist doing album covers for Sonic Youth and Black Flag, and having his own show at the MOCA among other things.

So there's hope if I don't go to art school right away!

New! News!

I'm writing to you from my new macbook! (Paying my mom back in installments-- very, very, small installments) I think my favorite part is the sound the keys make. Ah, there it is.

And here are some photos from a book I borrowed from the library by Edward Fella. It's a collection of polaroids he took of interesting typography. Very lovely book

And my art class was great!  And imagine I wanted to find a job instead! So silly.

Summer is great and I love that I get to make art everyday!

RESEARCH:
-a batch of artists
-how easy/difficult the application process is for the College of Arts and Architecture

one is much more fun than the other

summer-y/summary

all fruits taste better during summer days-- why is that?

This year was really great!
(underline your favorite memory!)
-golf -cow painting -mural fixing -internship -statistics -college applications -inside jokes -teacher appreciation! -prom (ha!) -AP art -new pals -letters -yearbooks -grad night -burritos
for me, it's a draw between inside jokes and yearbooks
but even then it's hard to pick just two!

THE Night

I present to you the first-place-award-winning cow!

No, really!!

(perspective)

And tonight was Parent/Teacher Conference Night. Scratch that, My Very Last Parent/Teacher Conference Night Ever!!! A truly wonderful evening! (srsly. I don't joke about this special meeting.) Mama visited all my teachers for their very last hoo-rah. Great conversation (Jones calculated that I have spent 5% of my life in his classroom), great praise ("I would adopt her!" -Mrs. Lee), and another great school night!

And I made Zwick a sweet poster of a bookcover of The Glass Menagerie for his room today. He put it next to the chalkboard. PRIME poster space!

ROUND TRIP

Took some neat pictures at the TOCA event on Sunday (yesterday, actually!). And what a day! We recreated Allan Kaprow's Round Trip where the steps are roughly:

-make a ball of trash starting with a piece of paper, string, tape, and cardboard
-roll and kick the ball around town and continue adding trash, newspapers, etc. until it becomes too heavy/ large too push
- begin deconstructing the ball as you continue to return to your original starting point until you are left with what you started with

So that's what we did!
Our last meeting is Thursday and I'm really sad to see the internship end!

MOCA happenings

That was our cute little set-up out on the terrace of the MOCA- equipped with 3 tents, a hammock, a microwave, a screen for guitar hero and movies, and 15 apprentices ready for a night at the museum

Oh what a night! (Four Seasons, anyone?)

And today was our second-to-last meeting and we recreated an Allan Kaprow score called "Pose" where we walked around downtown with a chair we brought from home, took polaroids of each other sitting in our own chair, and left the photo where ever we snapped it

um,

it's contemporary art?

However, it turned out to be really fun and very liberating!

So it's been a long couple of days and I'm an old lady-- ready to eat pudding at any time and about to go to sleep.

Math Equation Time!

AP Art Piece Scoreboard

let's see
6 hours of hardcore testing
4 hours of my Saturday spent at school for an AP Government review
14 hours spent in the art room on Wednesday finishing my art portfolio
and 7 hours today spent in the art room (with no breaks! I was cranky!)

that ='s to be 31 intense hours fueled on dried cranberries!

But it's all over! The paint caps are twisted on, the textbooks are closed, and I'm pooped!

Quicky

I have about 5 more textiles to go but I finished painting this yesterday and I just did the placement and printed it out today!

Prom checklist:

-took a back-to-back photo with Aaron: check

-danced to Aha, The Temptations, and Violent Femmes: check!

-made sure to say hi to everyone: check

-took a limo with 20 other kids: check (because Aaron didn't want to take the subway!)

-and overall had a pretty nice time for not even wanting to go: check

but I'm sure glad it's only once a lifetime!

Big Plate

Every Building on the Sunset Strip

Wait! Slow down everyone!

Prom is next week! Therefore, I need to get my cherographed dance moves down by next week (juuust kidding). Exams are in 2 weeks! I need to know where I'm going to college in 2 weeks! Art portfolio is due in 3 weeks! And the MOCA internship ends in 4 weeks! What a scary timeline!

However, the plus side is that I've been very productive lately and whenever I can sneak in a few moments of listening to Mark Mothersbaugh tracks, writing letters or eating a ripe mango-- I pity the people who can't even do that!

Sunday Morning

It's been, oh, a little over 2 hours since I woke up. And it feels great! I actually got a lot of work done- installed photoshop, did the placement for a new textile, emailed a couple of college kids, and been listening to Sondre Lerche and the All Girl Summer Fun Band
(oldies, but goodies)
It's pretty much down to University of San Francisco and UCLA. Each has their own list of pros and cons but talking to seniors from last year has been really helpful.
Me: How are the other kids? Nice? Smelly?
Robert (UCLA): Other kids, as a whole, are nice but annoying. Most of them are either spoiled white kids from Orange County or the Valley who wear Hollister and popped collars and big sunglasses and make me want to die, or Asian kids who don't talk much (with plenty of white kids who don't talk much and annoying spoiled asian girls). If you're 'you' here, you'll stand out just fine. As much as they annoy me in that regard, they're very friendly, and there are other people there if you look hard enough
However, I have yet to ask the ultimate, make or break question :
Is there a Trader Joe's around?

Room Reveal

My AP Art teacher, Mrs. Lee, won a room makeover. And after 9,000 online votes, 4 months of planning and waiting, and 2 weeks of having a travelling art class, today was the reveal!

Posin'

Hi Juliet!

And then after the camera crews left, we started exploring!

Gavin???!?

And the AP Art kids were going goo-goo ga-ga over the new photo backdrop and flood lights. Wahoo!

A really great experience and I'm so happy for Mrs. Lee. No one deserves it more than she does.
