Charley Harper

I have a nice stack of bookwork to do before Monday but as usual, I'm avoiding it by reading books and blogging about books being read. Well, for the past few months I've been saving my pennies for one certain book but I was surprised by my family and Hannah who all pitched in to buy me

that! Truly, my favorite illustrator in a really great book. And it isn't tiny either!

(was that helpful?) Well, it's huge! And it covers Charley's best work

His work is so clean and beautiful and inspiring!

I was, dare I say it, touched.

No Pinatas

Breakfast for Dinner
Ah, my favorite meal. Everything tasted great and even better, everyone was really happy!
A Scoops cake! Wahoo! That is lychee guava sorbet on the top and horchata ice cream on the bottom. We have about half of it left so come over quick before it's gone!

And if that wasn't enough food for one stomach (it wasn't), we made the drive out to Glendora for The Donut Man

I have a whole new outlook on donuts now.

Great day and everything oddly felt really special. Geez Tiff, can you get any more sentimental? I can! Thanks everyone for the wishes and the hopes and the pig latin messages!

Searching for a place to live

I went around town today with the david and the drew looking for a place to live. granted, i don't know where i will be living next fall, but i'm helping them because apparently they think i'm living with them and 2 other boys. you have to be shitting me, that's all i have to say about that.

i wish i had brought my camera though, because we w
ent through many a dumpster and also many a open-house. we pretended to be all different kinds of people and it was awesome, i say you should seriously try it sometime, its quite fun!

i've still got a lot of life stuff to do, like FASFA (i know, i know that should already be done) and other things like projects for school and my sketchbook, but i'm here writing for the better of the rocketeers, what else would you expect? i know not.

i guess i'll go now. i still have to get tiffanie a present for her brfday which is TUESDAY and david one for his brfday on sat. AHHHHHHHH. tiffanie (this is both directed at YOU and everyone else) knows my present will be late but super sweet. the big 1-7, its nothing to half-ass that's all i have to say about that.

anyway, bye bye.
Happy B-day dude! BFFL

Close Call

Before we left for our trip I received an alarming email from Stanford stating that I was missing 1 teacher recommendation and that without it, they could not review my application.

Holy shit!

So I emailed Jones stat, slipped a note into his school mailbox and thought about all my options if he didn't pull through-- ask my art teacher, whose home phone number I know? Ask my boss at the MOCA? Aw hell, write one myself?

But luckily, I found this in my email today:

Hoo boy, such baloney. I'm on it.

San Francisco

We got really lucky with the weather and managed to walk around the city in the sun, the almighty sun!, for one whole day.

Do you see the fan? Is it art? It was pretty warm inside the museum.

Hannah and I both walked out of this tea shop with ounces of black lychee tea. Uhhhh dictive!

A line that blocked the sidewalk formed for these snacks. So we figured we should wait too!

We made it inside! But these poor folks still had about 20 more minutes of peering through the window.

It took about 4 bites until we realized we should have bought more sponge cakes.

Thank god this sign was here to stop me!

Hope you guys got to go out and play!

basball caps

so today i put on a baseball cap, and thought to myself:
"hey, you can pull off a baseball cap."
i don't know, but the sudden realization of more things you can wear is a good feeling, like you are multifaceted or something.
anyway, since that is completely unrelated to anything of substantiality (i believe i made up a word) in life, i've decided to now talk about something that is:
college.

okay, done talking. now i am going to put some sweet pictures up and skadaddle, i got places to go, or so i think.

Free Pancakes at IHOP today

Lines! Lines! Lines! Plenty of lines at Murakami's closing weekend. What an amazing run! And on Sunday, the man himself, Murakami came to the museum to do an oversold art talk. Big crowd, big talk, big fun! It was his first time speaking in English to such a large crowd but I liked hearing it from him and not from a translator. He showed a series of slides, talked a little about each one and made lots of funnies! I'm a little sad to see the show go but I hope it travels safely to Brooklyn.

I saw these in the backyard when I went outside to do some schoolwork. Where did these chairs come from??

No idea but I like 'em!

ROGUE WAVE. i love you.

harry potter

I'm done with the seventh HP book, and damn, does it feel good!
it is horribly embarrassing, my being so fond of HP and such, to be done so late. A good 6 or so months after its release.
but to the real business.
Um, lots of cool people die: uncool.
Um, high school sweethearts get married: unrealistic.
Um, epilogue: unsatisfactory.

my young heart only wanted to know that they would get married, not that they would all have kids and hang out together. it's weird.
I'm sure it meant well, and it was pretty flippin' sweet how all the cool wizard shit went down, but the end left me confuzled a bit.
all that and reading side by side with Macbeth threw me off too--I don't know if I would especially recommend it to anyone.

Down to some other very important business.
metro park? of was it metro station? anyway
THEY SUCK.
oh, it was horrible to wait for roguewave and listening to weird "dance songs" next to emo girls with the same haircut and hair clips shaped like things reminiscent of my childhood ie: teddy bears, frogs, and mud pies (I made that one up, but really I wouldn't put it past hot topic to maket them)

wow, first blog has kind of a bitchy/cynical outlook on life. sweet, personality in a nutshell? till next time.

Introductions

Chela introduced me to The Best Fish Tacos in Ensenada today. But it's actually on Hillhurst. 3 tacos and a horchata each, calculated to be 10 bucks! We ate around lunchtime and I'm still full and happy.

1650 North Hillhurst

My mom and I went to the Collecting Collections opening tonight at the MOCA. I still have issues with contemporary art but I can't deny that it keeps art interesting! Oh and Denise (very briefly) introduced me to Buff Monster! It's always fun to go to the museum after hours.

I think many visitors skip this part of the MOCA, in part because many don't know it's there. But this is where I had my interview! So the next time you're at the museum, go downstairs to the reading room and envision me sitting on that chair being really scared!

Lunar New Year

It's the year of the rat! Badly Drawn Boy is probably happy.

And after we went to the pagoda, we headed over to the local nursery. There aren't too many left in this once-highly-nursery-populated-area so it was nice to see one thriving.

Cacti are great house plants. So little work for great little plants!
